I tried to post a couple of times, but Blogger was not being my friend and I gave up each time. Thank you all for your prayers, concerns and good wishes for my MIL. Her surgery went well and she is recovering nicely. So far she has the all clear, but still has a couple of tests to go before they can deem her cancer free. So, we are staying positive! :)

I haven't done much at all on the stitching front and am really hoping to get back into the swing of things very soon. Here is a pic of the Creation Sampler from Shakespears Peddler that I have started. I am really enjoying stitching it so far.

I know, it doesn't look like much yet...hopefully I'll have something more significant to show you soon!

I have been working on a project with my friend Laurie over the last month or so and it is taking up a lot of time also. I'm really excited about it and look forward to sharing it with you all once we've achieve our goal.

Another thing I have been neglecting is my garden. Although, I must say it looks great considering I haven't actually done anything to it yet! The perennials are all coming up fabulously thanks to all the rain we have been getting here. The pots are still empty though and that's what I'll need to be doing this weekend. I also spotted a few weeds out there as well, so I'll have to head out there tonite and do some weeding. It's going to be really hot and humid tomorrow, so that should keep me inside and stitching tomorrow night...hehehe!

Happy Memorial Day to all my friends in the USA!!! Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886473598088320976.post-78525015632017633072011-05-11T17:01:00.000-07:002011-05-11T17:01:52.999-07:00Too many balls in the air this past week!Well, I signed up for the Friday Night Sew/Stitch In that Heidi from Handmade by Heidi co-hosts. It's my first time and I'm really looking forward to it. It's being held on the 20th and you can follow this link if you want to join in! http://handmadebyheidi.blogspot.com/p/friday-night-sew-in.html I really enjoy following her blog as she is always making something cool!

This past week has been exhausting with lots of things going on and I feel like a juggler with too many balls in the air. So, I haven't got much stitching done, although I did start on my Creation Sampler from Shakespeare's Peddler a couple of days ago as I needed a stress outlet and none of my WIP's were calling my name. The thing I love best about stitching is the calming effect is has on the soul.

One thing that is weighing heavy on my mind is that my MIL has been diagnosed with breast cancer...again...and is having her other breast and lymph nodes removed tomorrow. We are praying that they get it all and that it has not spread further. She also suffers from Bipolar Disorder and this has made things much worse...to the point that it is a struggle to get her out of bed. We visited them on the weekend and she did get up and get dressed to visit with us which was positive. It is very hard on my FIL as well and we are hoping for some good news after the surgery.

One the creative front, I have no stitching progress worthy of pictures. I did however manage to pop back over the antique store I discovered with my friend Laurie the other day. I picked up some flower frogs, some glass candies and a pinwheel crystal glass. Here is the decorative scissor holder that I've constructed with them:
The Conservatives won a majority government, the Liberals and Bloc Quebecois got stomped (badly) and the New Democrats are the official opposition for the first time in their 50 year history. This was the first time that the Liberals finished in third place and it was a distant third at that. Both the Liberal and Bloc Quebecois leaders failed to win their seats and are both stepping down as party leaders. The Green Party won their first seat ever in the House of Commons. Anyways, I won't bore you with further details, but I feel positive that good things will happen!

My friend Laurie and I spent the afternoon driving around and stopping wherever we felt inspired to stop. First, we went to the Hobby Horse for fabric and other sewing stuff. Second stop was at the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre. There are so many wonderful artists there! We strolled through the studios of glass blowers, painters, wood carvers, sculptors, jewellery makers, etc. It was a wonderful time!

Mine was great. I had a stitching afternoon with my friend Judy on Friday while Rob took the kids to see the new Diary of Wimpy Kid movie. Saturday we were invited over for an Easter dinner at our very good friends Darren & Denise's and had a fantastic time. Denise is an entertainer extraordinaire. I am always so impressed with the table set to perfection (the Easter themed place cards in pineapple shaped crystal holders were so lovely even my kids commented on them!) and her decorating skills would give even the designers on TV a run for their money. I wish I had taken some pics, but I was too busy enjoying the evening. :) On Sunday Keira wasn't feeling very well as she had been up late the night before and had been coughing through the night; so we had a day of relaxing, watching a movie at home and spending time together as a family. It turned out to be a great day and she was feeling better by the afternoon. Here is a pic of the kids from Sunday afternoon:
I finally received the Creation Sampler from Shakespear's Peddler that I ordered. I had so admired the one that Margaret from Days of a Sampler Lover had done that I decided I needed to tackle it myself. The colours are even more stunning then they appear online. I can't wait to get started on it, but am committed to finishing a couple of the other projects I am working on first. My BFF Laurie is coming down again this Saturday and we are taking another crack at my new sewing machine. She is the teacher and I am the eager student. I pray that her patience will hold out! :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886473598088320976.post-2691322297696436392011-04-19T16:47:00.000-07:002011-04-19T16:47:14.050-07:00It's almost Easter and the bunnies are out!Hope you are all having a great week so far! I have been very busy the last couple of weeks and can't believe that Easter is here in a few days.

My hobby room is FINALLY almost completely ready...I say that with a laugh as the last 5% always seems to take longer than the first 95%!!! My kids have affectionately named it the "Woman Lair" as I call my husbands studio the "Man Lair"...LOL. Here are a couple of pics:

The wall to the left has a set of garden doors that go out onto the back patio and the wall to the right has a closet and a display cabinet with glass doors that I will use to display "finished" work...but it's not ready yet so will show that later. :) It's a small room, but all mine now and am happy with how it turned out. Oh, and yes, under that white cover is a Singer sewing machine that I bought...I must be nuts, but I've always wanted one and never had room to put one until now! So, that is my new toy and I am having fun with it so far. I hope to post of a pic of my first machine sewn pillow finish in my next blog post...wish me luck!

Well, the bunnies are out and here are a couple of bunnies that I have been working on:

The first one was a small SAL from Kissy Cross which was done in 3 parts over 6 days. I changed up the colours and also did a second version in lighter colours. I picked out some co-ordinating fabric for each (shown along the left) and these two will be my first pillow finishes. I think I stitched two of them just in case I botch one! ;)

The second bunny is Happy Bunny Bunny Day from The Trilogy and I hope he'll be done by Easter!

Thanks for stopping by!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886473598088320976.post-88886269837898154772011-04-11T20:27:00.000-07:002011-04-11T20:29:21.552-07:00Success!Well, I am happy to say that Keira's birthday weekend was a success. We went out to dinner at the Mandarin Friday night (her choice) and then watched a movie at home (Secret of Moonacre...very good...again, her choice). Saturday we had her "friends" birthday party. There were 7 girls that came over and we had fun making body glitter, decorating t-shirts and playing Dance Party on the Wii.
Why is it that the kids birthdays seem to last for a week between family visits and birthday parties with friends? Ahhhhh...to be kid again... ;)

Okay, so here is what I received in the EMS Forum, Secret Pal Spring Exchange:

Celine from France sent me the most lovely pink and green ribbon, some spring coloured threads, a bag of gorgeous buttons, some fabric, a lovely chart and a beautiful card. What a wonderful package to receive...thanks Celine!!! I don't know about you guys, but there is something magical about receiving something in the mail that is not a bill to be paid...LOL!

I also snapped a couple of pics of some flowers that have finally poked their heads up in my garden...proof of spring, hooray! :)

Well, it will be a very busy weekend for me. Out to dinner for DD's birthday tomorrow and then her birthday party with her friends tomorrow. She wanted a birthday party at home with me doing crafts with them, an ice cream cake and then playing the wii Dance Party. I have two crafts planned - making body glitter and decorating t-shirts...wish me luck! My son is begging to NOT be at home during the party as last year the girls wouldn't leave him alone...the joys of being the older brother...no worries, DH is taking him out to a movie. Then on Sunday, we have the family coming over in the afternoon. I'll try and post some pics Sunday night. Oh, and I am almost done LHN Acorn Hill! :)

Cheers to you all!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886473598088320976.post-26491005938455128972011-04-04T08:14:00.000-07:002011-04-04T08:14:56.580-07:00Lots of new stash!Happy Monday and hope you all had a great weekend!

My week ended up being crazy last week as the cabinets were being put into my new hobby room and of course, things do not always go as planned. The upper and lower cabinets are now installed and the countertop is in, but there is still some finishing work that needs to be done before I reveal it. It must all get done this week though as my daughter Keira is turning 7 on Friday (my baby!) and we will have lots of company and also a birthday party this weekend...eek!

Saturday was Gitta's Needleworkers Marketplace and my friend Judy and I, along with her friend Linda all headed down for the event. We had a great time meeting all the designers and shopping for stash. Here are some of the things that I picked up:

I have not had all that much stitching time these last few days, but did manage to complete a couple more of the hummingbird cards that I came up with earlier this week. I just love hummingbirds, they are definitely my favourite bird. I found the bird on the xstitchhappy.com site and it was part of a larger freebie design. Here is one of the finished cards:

I was out shopping with the kids yesterday and one of our stops was for dog food. The kids talked me into getting our sweet Lady another toy. She really likes it! Here she is hanging out on her blanket, in her favourite chair with her new best friend Lion:

Lady wasn't too impressed that I was taking her picture, but I just love the big happy grin on the Lion..LOL!

The kids also talked me into a couple of new fish, so we headed off to the fish store as well. The last goldfish we had died about 6 months ago (after a freakishly long life) and they reminded me that I had promised to get them each a new one after 6 months. Why is it they always remember the things that you wish they wouldn't?!?! Here is Sheldon (the black one) and Hannah (the gold one):

My DD has been sick with an awful stomache flu that lasted for 4 days! She is finally just now feeling better and able to eat. I had taken this week off of work as my DH is off on a golf trip to Myrtle Beach and I thought it would make it easier for me to manage the kids and their activities and also get some spring cleaning done. Well...hopefully I will get some spring cleaning done these next few days as the last few where a bust. I did however get lots of stitching done while DD was tucked in beside me on the couch. I started Acorn Hill by Little House Needleworks and here is what I have done so far:

So many great people and so much great stuff out there...it's really fantastic. Today when I logged in I saw that I now have 25 followers, so I'd like to celebrate that by having a couple of giveaways. Here is what I have to give away...the first giveaway is called "Punch" and is a punch needle kit, which I have realized a lot of people are into doing and this kit really caught my eye...the second is called "Stash" and is an assortment of things that I have put together (a 16"x23" piece of taupe 28ct Cashel linen, a DMC booklet of 6 spring themed cross-stitch designs, a vintage "Lavender & Lace" victorian design, 1 pkg of flower themed embelishments, 1 pkg of stitching themed embelishments & 1 pkg of "Tiny Bugs" (lady bugs, bumble bees & dragon flies) button embellishments .
I finished my humbug ornaments yesterday. I made a set of three to donate to our churches charity auction next month. I am also just starting to work on a different set of Christmas ornaments to donate as well. Hopefully I can show progress on those by next weekend. Here are the humbug ornaments:
I joined the Let's Stitch blog which is a group that does a Weekend Stitch-A-Thon every weekend. The idea being that you make a point each weekend to post pics and let everyone know what you are working on and what you have accomplished. Very cool!

I also did some work this weekend on the snowman ornament that I am making for my DD. Here he is:

To be quite honest, I am not really enjoying stitching him...there are far too many nearly identical colours of blue involved that are irritating me...LOL, I'll be glad when he is done!

My friend Judy came over today for a stitching afternoon. It worked out perfect as my DS headed off today to his grandparents for a few days since it is spring break this week and my DH took DD and a friend to see the movie Rango (they loved it). Judy and I had a great afternoon together talking and stitching.

Thank you all for your comments and concern for my son Karl and his leg injury. He is feeling much better and is really hoping to be able to ski this week while he is at his grandparents. I am doubtful that he will be able to as the bone bruise is right where the top of his ski boot sits, but he took his equipment and will see how it goes...what can I say, he is STUBBORN, but I do admire his spirit and determination. :)

Next blog post I should be able to show you a pic or two of something I am REALLY excited about...I am getting a new hobby room! The room is being painted, the cabinets have been ordered and the countertop has already been delivered and is waiting in the garage. I'm soooooo looking forward it. It should be completed in three weeks, but I am hoping to post the progress in stages.

Happy stitching everyone!
I worked on the snowman for a bit, but as my daughter so sweetly pointed out, "it doesn't look like you got much done when you are stitching white on white"...LOL! So I'll wait till I have some more colour on him and then take a picture to post later this week. I also stitched a couple of humbugs, but I am going to wait until they are "finished" to show you and I hoping to have them done by the weekend.

What I did do this past weekend, which I have been meaning to do for a few weeks now, is some card making. I went through a flurry of card making before Christmas and had a really good stash of done ones which has finally been depleted. So, here are a couple of designs that I came up with this weekend. Let me know what you think! :)
The rules of the exchange were that it had to be stitched over-one on evenweave (via the EMS Cross Stitch Board at http://www.cross-stitch-board.com/). I received two wonderfully stitched scissor fobs from Chantal in France. Merci Chantal!! Here they are:

In other news, my son Karl has injured his leg. I received a call at work from the school Vice-Principal on Tuesday that he was hurt in gym class and that I needed to come pick him up as he had what they thought was a possible fracture in his lower left leg. I left work and picked him up right away and went straight to the hospital. X-ray showed that thankfully it was not broken, but he has a severe bone bruise and is on crutches. No hockey or skiing for at least two weeks. He is especially disappointed since he had planned to ski with his grandfather during the March break (week after next) and I doubt he will be able now as the bruised area is right where the top of his ski boot is. He's being a real trooper about it though!

As mine comes to a close, I wanted to give an update on my progress as it was a week ago today that I last updated my blog. It was a very busy week last week and the weekend was great, but also busy and passed by very quickly. However, I did finish my Christmas Star ornament by The Workbasket. This one was DH's pick and was easy to stitch, but the star shape was a tricky finish. Excuse the sub-standard photos, I had to borrow DS's camera and it was NOT being my friend...grrrrr! Here it is:

Now I just need to finish the snowman for DD! I have started it and will post pics of progress next time.

Also, I need to get cracking on some ornaments to donate to our churches charity auction which is fast approaching! I figured that I would do some ornaments since I am in the ornament swing right now. I have a couple of patterns picked out and will get started on those this week. Hopefully I will have something to show you soon!

I hope you are all off to a great start this week!

Cheers,
Happy Presidents Day to all those in the USA! Happy Monday to everyone else! :)

It's always nice to have a three day weekend and I have been puttering around all day. I woke with a bad sinus headache this morning, so opted out of tagging along with DH while he took the kids to visit his parents. After some Advil, a nap and a cup of hot tea, the headache moved to the background and I decided to get some things done during my "quiet time".

I snapped a couple of pics of our spaniel Lady...affectionately called Lady Love...snoozing in the bay window. She is well loved and quite possibly the sweetest little dog in the world. Here she is:

Also, I finally got around to "finishing" my Ink Circles, Stained Glass Pine ornament. This one was my DS's choice and I really love the background colours.

I finished the Ghost half of my Quaker Ghosts and Bats by VeeandCo earlier this past week. I am not sure how I'll finish it yet...I am thinking that they would display nicely as flatfolds and I have the perfect fabric to use for the backing. Now just to stitch the Bats!

I also started a new ornament, which is called Christmas Star and is from The Workbasket. This one is DH's choice and is stitched with Rainbow Gallery Treasure Petite Braid, which is a little slippery to work with, but I have the hang of it now. Hopefully I'll have the stitching part of it finished soon. This pic doesn't do it justice, hopefully I'll get a better one when it is done:

My DD's choice of ornament (I let them each pic one from the 2010 Just Cross Stitch Christmas Ornaments edition) is Frosty Blue by Blackberry Lane Designs, which I have just barely started and realized that I don't have all the floss colours that I need, so that will have to wait for next time.

In other news, my DD's 7th birthday is fast approaching, so I have started her birthday party invitations:

I'll wait for her to come home so we can colour them in with either markers or paints together. She decided that she wanted a Pop Star party, so we are having a Hannah Montana impersonator come to the house...should be fun!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!
Firstly, I received my 3 free skeins of Rosace today and they look and feel great. For those who have not yet heard of the offer, there is a company called Rosace from Spain that are new to the floss market and are offering 3 free skeins of thread to try for a limited time (till the end of the month I believe). Shipping was also free for the trial offer, so how could you say no to that?!?! Their website is www.threadrosace.com. They do have a conversion chart on their website for DMC and Anchor floss. They claim that their product is softer and smoother than DMC. I must say, it does feel wonderfully soft and I am looking forward to trying it. It shipped fast also, I had it within 10 days of putting the order in (Spain to Canada). I selected three purple shades and the colours blend nicely, although I am not sure that my picture captures that. I really must dig out my camera next time as opposed to just snapping pics with my iPhone. Now I just need to decide on a chart to try these threads with. :) The shipping charges from Spain would be a little much for placing an order, but they are currently trying to secure a US distributor, so that would eliminate that problem.

Secondly, I finished my exchange piece...here is the finished stitched piece:

...and here is the finished biscournu:

I am happy with how it turned out and I hope that the person receiving it enjoys it. :)

In other news, we set up the new electric fireplace and mantle that we bought for the rec room downstairs today. It looks great! We had to move all of the furniture around, as I had a vision as to the way it should be and it turned out well. Wow, does that thing throw off a lot of heat! Thank goodness is has 4 levels of heat and also a non-heat setting. The flame is surpisingly realistic and it has a downlight for when the flame is not on as well which looks cool. I am looking forward to curling up beside it and stitching! Will have to take some pics and post them soon so you know what I am babbling about.

Hope you are all enjoying your week!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886473598088320976.post-82869250764515389822011-02-12T15:48:00.000-08:002011-02-12T15:48:24.991-08:00A quiet evening!Hello all,

I have a very rare instance of a quiet house tonight as both children are away. Wow, this doesn't happen very often and I must say I am enjoying it. DS is away for the entire weekend on a winter camping experience trip and DD is away at a sleepover birthday party tonight. DH and I celebrated by immediately going out for a nice Thai food dinner. I got him with my iPhone...he doesn't do pictures well, but I think he looks pretty good in this one. :)

I have been busy stitching this past week as I signed up for an exchange on the EMS Cross Stitch Forum (http://www.cross-stitch-board.com/). If you've never been there, it's a wonderful site with lots of great people and very worthwhile to check out. The rules of the exchange are that it has to been done over-one on evenweave. I had come across this cute little free chart on Ink Circles website called Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon Mandala. I am using the DMC conversion they provided, which makes it look quite different, but I still really like it. I am thinking of finishing it off as a biscournu as I think it would look cute. What do you think?

It was sooooo windy here this morning. When I took DD to ballet class the wind blew the door out of my hand as I was getting out of the car. Thank goodness there was no car parked right beside me! Other than the wind, it was beautiful and sunny.

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

I am thrilled to say that I went stash shopping with my friend Judy yesterday and we had a blast. Such a nice thing to be able to shop for "supplies" with someone who is also passionate about cross-stitch. We hit 3 different stores and I now have all of the supplies I need to finish my current and recently completed projects. I also bought a couple of things that I didn't need, but merely wanted, but that is just par for the course. :)

One of my current works in progress is Quaker Bats and Ghosts by VeeandCo Cross Stitch Designs:

It is meant to be done on a lighter fabric, but I was itching to stitch on black. It will end up being a square biscournu pattern and the flip side will have bats instead of ghosts. Since I am doing it on black I will stitch the bats in purple. Can't wait to finish it!

I also purchased a new chart from Praire Schooler that has a few ornaments that I'll be stitching at some point. I really like the two with the buildings.
We got another big dump of snow here yesterday and it looked really pretty coming down. Thankfully I don't have anywhere far to travel today.

Thanks for all the comments, it's very encouraging and I must say that I am having a great time with this blog so far and an even better time reading all of yours! Thanks Dani for the tip about moving the pictures around once they are in the post, I get it now! :)

Thanks so much for the nice comments! I am looking forward to posting more and getting to know you all. I have already been enjoying reading some of your blogs and getting some great tips. Slowly but surely I will figure this whole blog thing out. :) I'm not sure why all my pictures are ending up way down at the bottom...but hopefully I'll figure that one out soon.

I have a couple of pieces that I have finished recently...one is Faith, Hope and Love from Stofnest and the other is Stained Glass Pine from Ink Circles. I'll try inserting the pics into the body of this post and see if it works!
This is my very first blog. Having been inspired by my friend Judy, I thought that I would give it a go. I have been a cross stitcher for many years...since my early twenties. I will post a few pics of pieces I have done over the years and also what I am currently working on. So many projects, so little time. My goal for this year is to work on my finishing skills. I am going to try and get fancy with it...wish me luck! :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5
